Dear Isabel Sieh,
I would like to congratulate you for Girls Will Code. You are a light of hope that our world can be a better place.
Please allow me to talk about LMMS. It is a program to make music. It is free software, which means that users can modify the program as they like. Our work benefits the whole society. We believe that sharing is caring.
The LMMS community is small. The latest version of the program has been downloaded more than 1.6 million times. But we are part of the free software world. We are volunteers; together we learn, solve problems, and help each other.
I am only one member of the LMMS project. I do not speak for the project, but we are always looking for good developers. It would be an honor to work alongside you. Let us learn from each other.
LMMS is written in C++; it is a complex language. We may support Python if you want; you can help with this task. I would like to see you grow as a programmer. But this is not only about you, one talented girl. We are also interested in all the girls behind you, because we believe in gender equality.
LMMS is meant for everyone, including kids. We want a program that can be used by kids. But we also want a program that can be modified by kids. This is true for all free software: programs should be easy for kids.
All of you are our future. All of you should be able to code. Coding can improve the world. You have asked for teachers. Free software programmers can teach you. We just need a link with kids.
If you succeed in LMMS, you should try and send an ambassador of Girls Will Code to every free software project. I will help you in this effort. It will not be easy, because some programs are very complicated. But together we can make it happen.
Although you can play a critical role, you should not feel pressured. Take your time. You are already busy, right? I am busy too. We can work together without any hurry.
If you are interested, drop me a line. We can change the world, Isabel Sieh.
Thank you for reading this much.
